Hello, my name is Breanne Kuder, and my husband Keith is running for Congress. It would be great, if you have time, to get to know Keith in person, but I know people are very busy with their families and jobs, so I want to share with you what a wonderful man and candidate Keith is and will be. First, thank you for volunteering to be a delegate. It is a challenging, but critical task you have ahead of you to ensure that the right candidate is selected to represent us in Washington, D.C. I hope that my letter will make that task easier and more clear for you.
Keith was born and raised in the city of Los Angeles. He grew up in poverty. When Keith was four, his father hit his mother, so he grew up in a single parent home with a woman of great strength and faith. Keith was blessed to have the influence of several Church father figures. Although Keith has been through so much, these positive influences have helped him become the fine man he is today.
Keith served an LDS mission in Tennessee. When Keith returned from his mission, his family was still living in poverty. His mother and grandmother both rented a room in a two-bedroom apartment from someone else. His first night home from his mission, his grandmother expected him to take her bed, while she slept on the floor. Of course he refused her offer, telling her that a missionary knows how to live in humble conditions, but since his grandmother would not take no for an answer, Keith knew that he would have to move on so his grandma could sleep in her own bed. The next day, Keith decided to move to Utah for a better life and was on the road within 72 hours.
In 2008, Keith was recruited into the Utah political process by being asked to make phone calls and knock on doors of local delegates in regard to Jason Chaffetz, a congressional candidate considered by many to be an underdog in the race. Because of that assignment, Keith took on the role of Orem Captain. He recruited prominent individuals as members or supporters of Jason Chaffetz for US Congress. Jason Chaffetz surprised many by defeating the 12-year incumbent, Congressman Chris Cannon, in the 2008 convention and June primary. The Jason Chaffetz victory was considered such a surprise because the incumbent, Congressman Chris Cannon, was endorsed by President George W. Bush, both Utah U.S. Senators, Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett, as well as, most of Utah State Republican establishment. Because Congressman Chris Cannon outspent Jason Chaffetz by 6 to 1 and still lost, it was apparent that Jason Chaffetz had very effective local supporters such as Keith and the people he recruited. Keith went on to work with other people to help defeat 18-year incumbent U.S.Senator Bob Bennett in 2010, which allowed U.S. Senator Mike Lee to become a rock star that he has always been and do some great things for Utah and America.
Keith has always had a knack for political things. As a teenager, Keith was recognized in 2001 by U.S. Congressman Brad Sherman for his Outstanding Service to the Community. Keith has always found time to get involved with community programs, and maintains a consistently conservative record reflecting the will of the people of the Republican Party. Despite growing up most of his life in a liberal community, in poverty, Keith has demonstrated a unique ability to build a consensus among his colleagues and friends and has worked across party lines to achieve important results. Keith believes that we can reach solutions if we are not concerned about who gets the credit. A staunch defender of individual liberty and economic freedom, Keith Kuder has consistently demonstrated his strong support for government to be more fiscally conservative. Keith believes a government should not do for you what you can do for yourself.
While living in Los Angeles, Keith helped to bring about change. Because Keith knows that a very large part of success of any law enforcement agency is directly related to the community involvement, he went before the Los Angeles City Council and millions of viewers in 2002 and asked for a police chief who would be more willing to enact reforms and community policing. The following day, the Chief of Police, Bernard C. Parks, resigned.
While living in the Congressional District of Representative Henry Waxman, the 30th District of California, Keith helped bring about change in the community there as well. Keith was a leader at his high school in a multi-cultural group that promoted non-violence on campus. He would stop gang fights before they ever happened at high school or shut down the fights when tensions were high and everyone was expecting to see blood.
Keith’s presence in the Utah community helps benefit the history of high profile investigations, solid conservative credentials, and tenacity in uncovering government waste, and candor in dealing with Democrats.
For several years, Keith has served actively and effectively in the Republican Party. The Salt Lake City Tribune named Keith and others marching in the Salt Lake City Utah Gay Pride Parade with Mormons Building Bridges, Utahan of the Year for 2012. Also in 2012, Keith garnered support by Utah representatives in both the House and Senate to modify the Utah Constitution and had law S.B. 201 signed by the Governor for expunging Criminal Justice Court records.
That’s enough for Keith’s resume. Now let me tell you about the man I know him to be. It took two years of dating and getting to know each other before he proposed to me. In that time, I learned of his love for his family and friends, his generosity and his deep faith in God. He sets goals and always achieves them. He is never intimidated by celebrities, people with large titles, and yes, even politicians. I know he always speaks from his heart and some respect or fear him for that. Keith is blessed with a keen mind and the ability to think clearly and understand situations as they arise. He's a natural listener. People call on him to solve problems that involve the lives of many people, not only in his profession, but at home and in his community service as well. He is blessed with this innate ability to see the real problem and uses his people skills to bring people together to achieve an effective solution.
Keith and I just bought our first home in Vineyard. We are living the American dream and want that for all of those who yearn for that, as well. We enjoy boating and getting out in nature. Utah is not only our home, it's our paradise. Keith would taking camping in the beautiful Utah mountains over staying in the nicest hotels in the world. He always has a blow-up mattress in the trunk of his car and is prepared to use that as his bed in his office in Washington. Keith has worked as an Emergency Response Representative for several years now and makes time to volunteer in political campaigns or for the Republican Party.
Keith's not your typical outsider running for public office. He's a strong advocate of personal responsibility and accountability. He's been criticized for placing principle above party when he felt it was the right thing to do. Keith, like many Americans, hates the current corruption within American politics, and yearns for the day that America can be that shining city upon the hill. This is why Keith is running. To revitalize America’s greatness once again. To turn America back into that shining city upon a hill like President Reagan once talked about.
We have discussed and prayed long and hard about this decision. The easy thing would be for us keep our lives and our dream to ourselves and let others struggle to find theirs. We could take the easy life of a good job with decent hours, but Keith is not one to choose easy over what's right and I support his views. He is not without flaws, but if you put your trust in him, I can guarantee that you will get a competent, hard-working, trustworthy, knowledgeable, common-sense man who is approachable and comes with a unique skill set that could actually make a difference in Washington.
