Please email, call, text, the reps listed on the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Enforcement Committee or attend this meeting.

Utah will soon have a protocol for dealing with Illegal Immigration. HB0070 is summarized below.

HB0070 is being heard in committee today Friday, February 11th at 2pm in Rm 25 of the Capitol House Building West Side. Please feel free to invite all who are interested to attend.

I urge for the members of the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee to pass the HB0070 bill for a House & Senate up or down vote immediately.

I spoke with Governor Herbert for several minutes last Thursday, on February 3rd. I asked him to support Rep. Sandstrom and HB0070 bill. He said he already supports Representative Sandstrom and that he will sign the Sandstrom Illegal Immigration Bill as long as it's not a large Omnibus bill and it follows his 6 points he's outlined. He also mentioned that he has sat down privately with Representative Sandstrom and Representative Robles reviewing the bill and is just waiting for the House and Senate to do it's process in providing him the bill to sign. With all truthfulness Governor Herbert looked me in the eye and told me he was ready to sign the bill as is. I trust that you will do your part to ensure the bill upholds the Governors six guiding principles and will send the bill for passage.

These are Governor Gary Herbert six guiding Principles:

1. There must be respect for the law. The Utah solution must acknowledge that U.S. citizenship - by birth or grant - requires reverence for and adherence to the law.

2. The federal government has a responsibility to secure our borders, to enforce immigration laws, and to draft meaningful immigration policy. The federal government must act.

3. There must be greater accountability from the private sector. Businesses must be responsible for establishing hiring practices that comply with the law to verify legal documentation of all workers.

4. The Utah solution should recognize and respect the humanity of all people. Immigration reform efforts must be fair, colorblind and race- neutral.

5. We must provide appropriate tools for law enforcement. The Utah solution must give law enforcement officers the ability, through resources and training, to enforce the law and to keep our communities safe.

6. We must relieve the burden on taxpayers. There are significant societal costs associated with illegal immigration that simply must be addressed. Our Utah communities, and our taxpayers, cannot be expected bear this financial burden.

On a personal note I have honestly gone to bed crying some nights over this issue and praying for us to move past the hate rhetoric speech. This is a tough thing for Utah to do and I know this more than anyone. I have personally received a death threat in December for publicly being pro legal immigration. My Mother immigrated to the United States from Colombia and my Father is a Military Vet and I was born in 1984 in California after a few years of Marriage. I am a Hispanic Conservative Republican who has himself surrounded by great friends from many Nations. I have personally gone to Mexico, after the death threat, under heavy protection to visit and see the immigration situation for myself. I have attended numerous events in Utah listening to groups of concerned Utah Citizens discuss the illegal Immigration and the HB0070 bill. My heart is tender and full of love for Legal Immigration. Let's push this bill forward and make the right step for Legal Immigration in the Great State of Utah for us today and many great years of prosperity and pursuit of happiness for us all in the future!
