One of the most loved and anticipated holidays in the World, is Christmas. This holiday is widely known to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of Christianity. Families and Children around the World on earth find unity in gathering and lighting up their homes with Christmas lights and some have a beautiful Christmas tree. Underneath the Christmas tree you can usually find gifts or cards of appreciation for loved ones and friends.
I have found myself with many Christmas holidays without any materialistic gifts due to the poverty I grew up in. I found that spending time with the family mattered most to me. This is not ideal for everyone. Most love Christmas material gifts to celebrate the Holiday with the thought of Santa Clause. Many believe that Santa Clause travels around the globe delivering gifts to those who are “good” throughout the year. And if you’re bad then you get a stocking filled with coals. Since I had many Christmas mornings without coals or gifts, I felt that this was a “win - win” situation for me.
This holiday brings about loving hearts and acts of kindness around the world by people giving back to communities and finding money to give gifts to children who are less fortunate. Charities around the World find themselves depending on most of their donations to come in on or around this time of year. One Christmas I was asked what I wanted for my christmas gift by a caring person. I told them I wanted nothing for myself, but something for the family. The gift I asked for was a VCR. Back in 1995 VCR’s brought so much entertainment to families and I wanted to bring my family together. VCR’s were too expensive back then so I doubted we would get the VCR. On Christmas Eve a bus drove up to my home and Santa Clause came out calling me by name. Now this bus was filled with Christmas caroler’s who were singing. When Santa had my attention at my front door, he said he had my gift. I was shocked. I was prepared for anything and would have loved anything he had to give me. He pulled out a large box and asked me to open it in front of my family. It was a VCR! My Mother began to cry with tears of joy. My two older Sisters were confused. I savored the moment! Next thing I know my Sister got a gift of a tape, which was a movie, of the Backstreet Boys group Live Concert. We watched that concert over and over! We about destroyed that tape by rewinding it so many times. Now that was the first time I felt so blessed. And who would have thought that my selfless gift for the family would actually come into fruition?
There are thousands of Children who feel lonely or empty inside just because they never receive a gift and so it means a lot when another person in this World steps into action and does a random act of love. I jump from using the common phrase of random act of kindness to random act of love because in the larger humanistic scale the person feels loved from that kind act. Love is very scarce from society, which is a travesty in and of itself. So I attempt to reach out and provide the same life changing experiences, I’ve had, to others in my realm of influence today.
My life year round is surrounded by fast cars and shooting stars and yet the fast life, political life, party life, rock life I have had every night only makes me stronger. When Christmas comes around I take a deep breath and realize my mistakes and can’t let the cop lights, flash lights, spot lights, strobe lights, street lights, and Christmas lights blind me from the true meaning of this divine holiday. My Mother has raised me right and no matter what trials, or how many material items I own, or what amount of dollars I have in the bank I find myself waking up daily with appreciation for my experiences, family, friends, and opportunities to influence others for good.
Please turn up the lights in your heart and allow yourself do your random act of love this Christmas Season. God bless every one of you. I promise you that your life will get extra bright and you will see everything you need to in order Change the World, for good, within your influence. This to your surprise will lead you on the path to the pursuit to happiness. God bless you all and may you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
