Utah Governor Herbert needs to VETO HB477

I believe our elected officials must operate in the open, and with an open agenda and HB477 goes against that. Once someone is elected as a public official than their life is public and transparency is required. I am doing all I can to put my last-minute brakes on this ill-conceived GRAMA-gutting legislation

WHEREAS, the Utah Republican Party Platform states: "We demand honesty, integrity, morality, and accountability of our public officials" and further states: "We will work to expose and stop corruption.";

WHEREAS, the Utah Republican Party supports our republican form of government "by, through, and of the people" through elected representatives who are answerable to the people and who are empowered only by the consent of the governed;

Utah KSL Polls:

In addition to losing credibility as the reliable representatives of conservative principles, we Republicans are increasingly seen as challenged on issues of ethics. HB477 hides information from the public and this cannot be tolerated for the media and the constituents in Utah. I rise against HB477 and ask Governor Herbert to VETO the bill!
